Smartcomm gets started
Smartcomm was founded in 2006 by Rod Peirce. His vision was simple: smarter communication for customers via variable colour printing and digital integration. After already being in the industry for 20 years working for major providers he wanted to be an honest and reliable customer focused service provider. Smartcomm’s first premises was a tin shed at Stafford, with just three staff and one printer, folder and a mail inserting machine and one loyal customer who had known Rod for many years and is still a Smartcomm customer.

Smartcomm wins Readers Digest contract
After two years in business, Smartcomm’s innovative approach and supplier partnerships see it secure one of the biggest direct marketing contracts in Australia, Readers Digest. Staffing levels increase from 4 people to 60-plus staff to facilitate 24-hour operations. New printing and mail inserting equipment unique to the Australian market was acquired to enable print and mail of over 40 million mail packs per year for delivery via Australia Post. The production and warehouse facility expand to 2,250sqm storing and managing over 600 pallets constituting in excess of 30 million stock items. Fourteen years later, Readers Digest continues to be a major customer of Smartcomm.
Smartcomm builds a solid reputation
Rod set out to help businesses scale up their customer conversations through personalised direct marketing. He went on to build a solid reputation with blue-chip clients such as major retailers, fundraisers, superannuation funds, financial institutions, councils and government. Smartcomm expands their print and mail processing equipment, introduces digital integration, and, through the development of a full warehouse and distribution management solution, Smartcomm grows its service range to another level thanks to the support of its customers.

JWP Digital continues to innovate and develop new solutions that deliver value added services that meet our customer’s requirements.
Smartcomm acquires IQ Mail
Smartcomm was looking to expand its customer base, widen its footprint and integrate additional equipment so it acquired IQ Mail, which operated for over 20-years out of the Gold Coast and specialised in the servicing of councils and local customers. As a part of the acquisition, Smartcomm expands its print capability to offer high speed inkjet colour print which provided another dimension to what Smartcomm could offer all of its customers. The combined capacity and capabilities delivers for businesses of all sizes the customisation and flexibility they crave.
Smartcomm expands to purpose-built $5 million facility
Today, Smartcomm has a brand new purpose-built facility, over 2,250sqm, with a fully air conditioned storage capacity for up to 1200-pallets. Rod has gathered an impressive team around him, bringing print, mail and digital expertise, blue-chip relationships and a creative collective mindset.
“Smartcomm is investing for the future here. We’ve upped our production capacity with more inserting machines and now have not only full colour toner-based printing, but also high-speed inkjet printing. Our warehouse storage is fully air conditioned and managed by our online warehouse and distribution software Smartflo. Our total complex both inside and out is protected by some of the latest security including fingerprint access and remote video monitoring 24/7″, says Mr Peirce. “This has come about due to the commitment of long term staff and the support and loyalty of major businesses having the faith in the earlier days and still supporting our growth and our commitment to continue to bring value and efficiencies to our customers.”
